Hawaii Journeyman Electrician License Requirements 

There are three main Hawaii journeyman electrician license requirements:

  2. Gaining the Required Work Experience 
  3. Applying and Sitting for a Journeyman Exam 

Joining an Electrician Trade School 

To qualify for a Journey worker electrician license, you are required to have a classroom training of 240 hours. If you want to become a journey worker specialty electrician then you must have 120 hours of classroom training

Gaining the Required Work Experience 

The best way to gain the required work experience is by joining the Hawaii Electricians Training Fund {HETF}. Before enrolling in an apprenticeship program, the following requirements must be met: 

  • Complete an oral interview 
  • Be at least 18 years of age 
  • Pass a general aptitude test 
  • Have a high school GED

The license requirements will depend on the kind of license you are interested in: 

Supervising Electrician License

The following requirements must be met:

  • Fill and submit an application form 
  • Be 18 years of age or above 
  • Show proof you have work experience of 4 years 
Hawaii Journeyman Electrician License Requirements

Journey Worker Industrial Electrician License 

The following requirements must be met:

  • Be at least 18 years or above 
  • Have work experience of 8,000 hours 
  • Provide a social security number in your application 
  • Complete a 200-hour theoretical knowledge course 

Journey Worker Specialist Electrician License 

The following requirements must be met:

  • Submit a social security number in your application 
  • Have work experience of 6,000 hours 
  • Complete a 120-hour theoretical knowledge course 
  • Be at least 18 years or older 

Supervising Specialty Electrician License

The following requirements must be met:

  • Have the license of a Journey worker industrial electrician 
  • Have the license of a journey worker specialist electrician 
  • Be at least 18 years old 

Sitting for a Journeyman Electrician Exam 

Once you gain the required work experience, fill and submit this application to the board. If they accept it, you will be invited to sit for an exam in which you will be rewarded a license if you get a score of 70%.
